Dollar Tree to the Rescue

Anyone else flying through home crafts, paper, markers, etc…with kids home all the time? We have a new plan of attack. Instead of spending WAY too much at Michaels & Target – Every couples we make a trip to the local Dollar Tree. It helps us stock up on activities cost effectively. It works for us for a few reasons:

  • Kids can pick out things they want, with lots of seasonal options
  • I can take a break from being the “no police”.
    • This past year has been tough, I hate saying no but I am also not going to buy my kids toys and/or every time we run to a store. Not happening!
    • But this is our special trip to stock up. And why not do so cost effectively.
    • So if they pick up a snack they are excited about? Sure, put it in the carriage. An extra coloring book for a friend or sibling? yup, grab 2!
  • I try and plan it around some milestone or accomplishment. Report card, potty training, you name it. So they feel like it is even MORE special

February’s Favorite Things

Another month down, and here were the favorites/most used things for February! Two big themes you will see here are car & home office – both of which we tried to organize & spruce up this past month.

Car:

I shared this month that we traded in my car for something bigger that better fits our family. I am determined to keep this ā€œnew to usā€ SUV organized and clean

Home office: Well, after 11.5 months of WFH, we finally got a legitimate desk, chair & office set up. It was BEYOND time!

And some fun, random miscellaneous stuff:

  • USB rechargeable lighter – OK OK OK hear me out! It was my little one’s 3rd birthday and we reached for the lighter for her bday cake. Empty and didn’t work. Second lighter…empty! After scrouging through the junk drawer for matches from a restaurant years ago. We were saved, but there has to be an easier way. This USB rechargeable lighter is AMAZING!!!Ā
  • Kids Bathing suits – I got a few for reach of the girls at Target. I always put bathing suits in the girls easter baskets so they are all set for summer. Cat and Jack has the cutest styles!
  • Wine cellar supplies – wood rack & labels
  • Ordinary face products. I was very interested but had to do some serious research on the different serums, acids & potencies – very daunting but I ended up with:Ā

Building a wine cellar

I am sure you have been reading about my love for Last Bottle Wines, but one thing that it has reignited my hope of starting a small wine cellar. We have shipped a few bottles here and there from wine travels (mostly Italy & Napa) but recently we have been buying wine that will last and/or get better through the years. So yes, while we may drink one bottle now, the goal is to put a couple away to enjoy years & special occasions from now.

We ordered and put together this wine rack from amazon. It was incredibly easy, took less than 10 minutes. The only other item you need is some wood glue to put a dab on the pegs so that it is solid. There are many wine racks to choose from but we chose this one for the following reasons:

  • holds good amount of bottles (72) while being affordable
  • Shipped free (thank you amazon prime)
  • Fits the space
  • Note: the rack is an unfinished wood, which is fine for our basement (basically only we are seeing it)
    • You could stain or finish it if you’d like

New Englanders put up with a lot in the weather department. But one great thing about living in New England – our basements are PERFECT for a wine cellar. Dark, cool year round & a little humidity. Perfect conditions!

Not all bottles on this rack are high end. I also took the opportunity to organize our living room wet bar as there has been lots of over crowding from all our quarantine wine purchases. TRUTH!

FYI: each slot fits the standard sized bottle. I had to put our large format or funky wide sized bottles on the top row.

Valentine’s Day Wine Pairings

As I mentioned on my instagram, we put together a wine pairing for the virutal cooking class my husband’s company ran. It was last night and equally fun & delicious. The wines we chose were:

  • Soave
  • Vermentino
  • Barbera

And while joining the cooking class on zoom, we opened a brunello (yes, the deal I got on Last Bottle – have you signed up yet? )

If you love white wine and stick by the standard pinot grigio & sauvignon blanc, I highly recommend you give Soave a try! It is smooth and easy to drink.

My favorite Wine App: Last Bottle

When I am not shopping in store or directly through a winery, I buy a good amount of wine through Last Bottle. They do one wine every day at signifiant discount….today is ONE of my favorites. A 2014 Barolo for $18! No that isn’t a typo…. $18. If you buy 6 or more, shipping is free.

Piedmont wines, especially Barolo will always have a special place in my heart after our 2014 trip there.

Truth be told, I ordered 6 bottles of these an hour ago, haha.

I can make the deal even better for you, if you sign up for an account through my link here, you get a $10 credit. So one of your bottles would be $8!!!! WILD

Happy shopping, drinking & always finding a deal.

January’s Favorite Things

I have decided to wrap up each month with my most used/worn items. No, I didn’t come to this realization on my own – it literally took me putting two things together in front of my face:

  1. A few weeks ago a follower gave me feedback that some of my prime day gift guides helped them holiday shop, which made me so so happy.Ā
    1. Besides some comments on insta, I don’t get a ton of feedback, so please share it so I can incorporate more of what you like!
  2. It was the same week I was trying to figure out what to send my sister for her 40th birthday.

Why was I only doing gift guides near holidays? Not only do people have birthdays throughout the year – but I find myself sending family and friends ā€˜little somethings’ randomly now because who doesn’t love receiving mail that isn’t junk or a bill. UMMM me!!!!

That is a long way of saying, here are last month’s favorite things:

Lounge sets:

  • Affordable: Amazon – black with stripe detail.
  • Splurge: Have you heard me talk about Vuori yet? It is AMAZING. The softest fabric I have ever worn. My generous sister in law sent both my husband and I Vuori joggers & hoodie for xmas and they are BY FAR the most worn items the month of January!

I also liked this casual outfitleggings & long sweater , still very comfortable and casual but if I had to leave the house & presentable – I could put on boots and BOOM. done. The sweater is long enough to be a dress or oversized sweater.Ā

The BEST drugstore concealer you will find. Now with a $1 coupon, which is good because I leave one in each bag. I use shade W123

Valentines: If there is aĀ  year for a non-food Valentine option, this is the year – THANKS COVID. My 5 yr old wanted something that gave her friends a keep sake. These arrived a couple days ago and they were adorable. A keychain and tattoo, gender neutral and very cute. 30 valentines for $21, so that’s $0.70 each. Works for me!Ā

AirPods –Ā  I was down to one AirPod before my husband gave me the AirPod Pros for xmas. It is so helpful having them on for a phone call, exercising, pod cast, webinar while juggling all the things…or to listen to work calls/Ā

Docking station: a cord and spot for every device! Not much else to say beyond that .

Ice cube molds – I put these in my husbands stocking but I find myself reaching for them for my Friday cocktails.

Shark Handheld Cordless Vacuum – Because….kids! But my fav feature is the mess free – one push button to empty the bin over the trash. No more fishing my hands in to pull dirt out. Bleh.

Wine TastingThese burlap bags are numbered, reusable and perfect for the wine tasting challenge I posted about earlier in January.

Support Small Business

We have the cutest shop walking distance from our house – Decor and More. It specializes in home decor, window treatments and they do a ton of personalized gifts & gift baskets. Last mother’s day I received a gift basket from them and it was so lovely. We pop in all the time!

They gifted me this item for one of our weekly drinks. I was pleased how delicious the flavors were, and of course my cutie loved the hot cocoa bomb we got from there for her.

Even if you don’t live in Massachusetts, check out their page. Like, support, share…and they can always mail gift baskets out with a very personalized touch.
